Wading Through Wabuku

We visited a people group called Wabuku in the Sepik region of Papua New Guinea for 2 months. We learned tons of culture, more of the national language, and gleaned wisdom from one of the missionaries who has been working among these people for many years. Please be praying with us that God would continue to establish his church among the Wabuku people. It’s been 10 years since they heard God’s Word taught, but some of them told us they still haven’t forgotten the fact that Jesus died for their sins and rose again. There are 2 ladies who read God’s Word daily (the portions they have translated into their language). These ladies and many others are literally counting down the months until they will hear God’s Word taught again, which should be later this year! We also were struck with the reality that many of the ladies don’t know the national language and how important it is for them to hear and receive God’s Word in the Wabuku language.

This weekend our team is putting on a retreat for 15 middle school aged missionary kids. Many of these students live out in remote locations here in PNG and don’t have access to things like youth groups or summer camps. We have a really fun weekend planned for them with tons of awesome games as well as encouraging messages from God’s Word. The theme of the weekend is “refuge.” Luke and Nathan’s messages are about how God is our refuge in any circumstance and we will be looking at the life of David and the psalms he wrote. Pray with us over this weekend and over these students. Pray that each of them would make a connection with one friend they can keep up with after this retreat to pray for and encourage one another.

Prayer and Praise

  • Praise the Lord for time with Jess’ parents in PNG and Australia!

  • Please pray over the middle school retreat this weekend. Pray these students would be encouraged by God’s Word and through the body of Christ. Pray they would make a connection with another friend that they can continue to encourage and pray for one another after the retreat.

  • Please pray for Jess as she finishes up her Tok Pisin study. She has just one more level to complete to be finished with her time of formal language study.

  • Please pray for God’s guidance for our team as we decide on what people group to allocate into. Pray for our co-workers the Weavers who just arrived back in the states for their first home assignment after serving in PNG for 3 years.

  • Please continue to pray for the salvation of our PNG friends Peter, Julie, and their family who have become our PNG family.

  • Pray for the continued strengthening of our walks with the Lord as well as our marriage.
